Tegan at Troy |
This morning we were privileged enough to sleep in an extra fifteen minutes, although it wasn’t long until we all flocked to one of the only rooms at the Kum Hotel with stable wi-fi. Soon after breakfast we were on our way to Canakkale. While we were all sad to see our final sights of Gallipoli, we were all definitely excited to meet a class of Turkish students that would soon accompany us to the city of Troy, but to get to the other side of the Dardanelles we had to race off to catch our ferry, where we were sitting in a bus, on a ferry, on the water.
As we arrived at
Canakkale College our feelings of
excitement soon turned into feelings of an anxious fear. We were then separated
between the
twenty five students where that fear was quickly dismissed by the
English we were encountering. Then
the group moved on to the city of Troia, where the classic trojan horse was
being repaired so we sadly couldn’t
climb into it. After a tour from my main girl Bitz, we had free time on the
site where some talented Aussies and
Turkish students performed, displaying their vocal talents. We headed back to
the bus and had lunch in the college cafeteria where we experienced an even
wider variety of Turkish specialties.

The student who I
was paired with soon dragged me away to go and watch the infamous quiz show
held at their school to help them learn languages. It was just what I expected, actually it was
nothing like I expected. It actually reminded Laura and I of a Japanese game
show - crazy yet completely entertaining, with balloon volleyball and a ping pong
toss our laughter could not be contained. After the quiz show and countless
photos later we went on a tour of a Turkish ship , the Nusret, that replicated one
used in the Great War.
We headed back to our hotel to freshen up before we hit
the street to find bargains such as Converse and Raybans before we ended up at a place we have all
dreamed about in the past four days … Mc Donalds.
We headed back to the hotel and said our final good byes to our Turkish friends, promising to stay in touch and looking forward to all the adventures still ahead of us in the next nine days. Not all of us are enthused about the 6am wake up tomorrow but we are all excited about the day of shopping in Istanbul.

Oh my gosh, you guys have Bitz as your Turkish tour guide too! Lucky ducks. :-) Enjoy the rest of your time away - it'll be over before you know it.
